MOTHER’S DAY IS COMING UP ON SUNDAY MAY 14 – AND MECCA IS HERE TO HELP YOU CELEBRATE THE MOTHERS, MUSES AND MENTORS IN YOUR LIFE! GAIN A LITTLE GIFTING INSPIRATION, THEN SHOP OUR GUIDE HERE.
When it comes to new motherhood, luxury might not be the first word that springs to mind. Sure, there are multiple outfit changes a day – for both mum and baby – but they’re mostly inspired by necessity, not fashion. And yes, you’ll be spending a lot of time in bed, but unfortunately there’s not a lot of sleep happening. But if there’s anyone who can make new motherhood look luxurious, it’s Kate Bucceri. The mum to three-year-old son Gio and due-any-moment second baby (“Crossing fingers and toes for a girl!”) is the PR and Communications Manager for Tiffany & Co. – yes, the actual dream – and the curator of a covetable, Insta-famous wardrobe (Christopher Esber, Loewe and Totême, anyone?). So, who better to ask for elevated beauty treats perfect for gifting this Mother’s Day?
“Self-care for a new mum is typically the lowest priority,” Bucceri tells us from her home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where she lives with her family and their dog, Remy. That’s why her gifting must-haves include the essentials that offer “the ultimate investment in yourself, to bring the spa experience home. [They’re] products that are easy to use but will make you look and feel really special.” Read on to find out just how to spoil the new mums in your life like a luxury expert…
BRING THE SPA HOME When it comes to skincare, Bucceri has long been a convert to the Emma Lewisham range. “My beauty routine hasn’t shifted too much during my pregnancy,” she says. “If anything, I have just upped the ante in terms of hydration. I have used Emma Lewisham on my face for years now, and being plant-derived, it’s completely safe to use during pregnancy and nothing has to change if you are breastfeeding. I love The Essentials kit and plan to take it to the hospital with me as a special treat to use on my skin each day.” To keep the spa experience going, Bucceri loves the Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro. “Realistically you are not going to be able to pop out for regular facials when you’re a new mum, so for me this is the ultimate indulgence and investment in yourself and your skin. Literally bringing the LED spa experience to your couch!” If you’ve recently brought a baby home (or are gift shopping for someone who has), why not bring the spa back with you too?
DON’T FORGET YOUR HAIR AND BODY As any beauty obsessive knows, there’s more to skincare than just tending to your face – and that goes double during pregnancy. “I have been using a heavier body moisturiser than usual as my skin just drinks it up, especially on my belly,” Bucceri tells us. Her go-to? Sol de Janeiro’s cult Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. “This is the ultimate body moisturiser and something that really helps the belly’s skin elasticity after being stretched during pregnancy. I like to apply morning and night and almost massage the area before wearing my postpartum support band.” And then there’s the hair situation, as Bucceri discovered after her first baby: “Postpartum hair loss is real!” She recommends the OLAPLEX No. 3 Hair Perfector for helping to protect delicate post-pregnancy hair. “I love this product as it makes my hair look really healthy and strong, which can help to prevent breakage – an essential, postpartum. I love doing this as a mask once a week and leaving it in overnight.”
WHEN IN DOUBT, BLUSH AND GO A full face of makeup might not be high on the priority list for most new mums, but when a pop of colour or a quick pick-me-up is in order, stick formulations are a godsend. Bucceri’s pick? Westman Atelier’s creamy, buttery, pigment-rich Baby Cheeks. “This is my favourite quick and easy makeup application before I head out of the house. Gone are the days of applying a full face – I just swipe this on my lips, cheeks and eyelids and always have one in my nappy bag to use if I need on the go.” Mothers are famous for their multitasking, so it makes sense to do the same with your makeup. And what does Bucceri have planned this Mother’s Day? “I’ll have a toddler and a newborn (wish me luck!), so I hope that I will have a little bit of me time,” she says, “with hopefully a bath and breakfast in bed. And I’m not going to lie: beautiful flowers would not go astray!"
